Is It Necessary to Stretch Your Face When You Shave?

We all have different ways of shaving, and most often we do what we do to get the best shaving experience. It’s a common practice to stretch the face when using a manual blade. But do you stretch your face while shaving with electric shaver? Or rather is it necessary to get a better shave?

The answer is Yes, we do get a better result by stretching the skin on our face even with electric shavers. Not everyone stretches their skin, some may simply turn their face side to side while shaving. But the point is to be sure we do it to get the shaver’s head at the right angle for a closer and clean shave.

It is necessary to get our skin stretched or turn our head side to side to deal with some tricky areas such as the neck and the jaw-line. We also turn our head upward while working on the neck areas, not just to get a closer shave but also to see ourselves better in the mirror.

The need to stretch the skin might become even more obvious when we grow older and start to get wrinkles. This is also true for people with lots of flat-lying hairs. Also, some people have hair that grows in different directions and it is best tackled by slightly stretching the skin while shaving.

If you’re someone who reads instructions then you’d know most manufacturers recommend stretching the skin while shaving. Braun electric shavers advocate users to stretch their skin gently while shaving. They don’t recommend stretching too much to avoid razor burns.

Why Some of You Shouldn’t Stretch Your Skin

Now, not everyone benefits from stretching their skin while shaving though it is known to give a closer shave. People with ingrown hairs and sensitive skin may find stretching leaves them more vulnerable to razor bumps and skin irritation.

This is because when you stretch your skin it becomes more exposed to the blade which can trigger irritation. The same is true for those vulnerable to razor bumps. Cutting hairs below the skin line is definitely a negative for those with razor bumps problems.

Stretching your skin can be an ideal way to get a close and clean shave, but keep in mind not to stretch too much even if you don’t have sensitive skin. Though you may not get shaving cuts with electric shavers it can still cause razor burn as mentioned earlier. Shaving too close is not always the best strategy for an overall good shaving experience.

Keep in mind that maintaining your shaver is equally important to get a close shave. Always clean your shaver after every use. Replace your shaver foil or cutter in time for optimum shaving experience.
